Athletics Tasmania is pleased to announce a team of 76 to represent Tasmania next month in Adelaide at the Australian Cross Country and Australian Road Race Walking Championships.
The Championships will be held in Adelaide on August 24 and 25. They will include races for athletes from 10 years of age, right through to open.
Each athlete named below won their right to represent the state following their performance at the recent IGA Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country Championships and the Tasmanian Race Walking Championships.
For the past two years, Tasmania has brought home gold medals, with Biniyam Hagos winning the under 14 boys in 2010 in Brisbane and last year, Getasew Ferguson took out the 12 year boys race. Both young men have been selected once again for the Tasmanian team heading to Adelaide.
Another key member of the team includes World Schools Cross Country Champion Jake Birtwhistle. The Western Suburbs athlete is yet to win a medal at the Australian Cross Country Championships, but this year he will line up with the confidence of being the current world champion.
