No Smoking at Tassie Sporting Events

09 Mar 2012

From 1 March 2012, changes to anti-smoking legislation means that smoking is prohibited within 20 metres of playing surfaces and grandstands.

These changes will affect every sporting venue in Tasmania, whether it's an oval, pool, track, play ground or stadium.

At track and field meetings, cross country, walks and fun runs smokers will need to be at least 20 metres from the field of play and grand stands at games. This includes permanent and temporary seating, and warm-up areas.

This is a State Government change and has been adopted by Athletics Tasmania as we must uphold the government laws.

This is a great initiative from the state government and one that protects the participants of all athletic events.
