Tasmania’s Donna MacFarlane will have her final race of her European campaign tonight, when she tackles an international field over the 3000m Steeplechase in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The World Number 3 is favourite for the race which includes three Kenyan’s and trans – tasman rival Kate McIlroy of New Zealand.  Judging on the quality of the international field, the meeting record of 9.57.06 is set to be obliterated.

MacFarlane has had a series of sensational races in 2007 and with a pacemaker in tonight’s race, she will be aiming to better her personal best of 9.25.05 in her pet event, before returning to Hobart to fine tune her preparation for the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, beginning August 25.

The spitzenleichtathletik meeting features many world class athletes including Sydney 2000 Olympic 800m champion Nils Sherman or Germany.  Australian will be well represented with no less than seven athletes competing.

Start time for the race is 5:15am Tasmanian time.   Full results from the Luzern Spitzenleichathletik meeting will be available at www.iaaf.org.
