Donna MacFarlane continued to impress on the international stage overnight, winning a 1500m race in Karlskrona, Sweden.

In a planned dress rehearsal for the IAAF World Championships in Osaka in August, MacFarlane was simulating the major competition of the year, where she will have only two days between her heat and final.

The Tasmanian superstar proved she is the real deal, crossing the line 6 ½ seconds clear of second place.  “I know I could go faster, however the pacemaker was 3 seconds too slow through the 800m mark,” she said from Karlskrona, in the southeastern most point of Sweden.

MacFarlane’s time of 4.12.99 is her third fastest ever over the distance and shows her ability to run well over many distances, when the time is right.  Her result overnight displays her ability to back-up performances after her second placing at the fist Golden League meeting of the season in Oslo on Friday night.

The series of runs by MacFarlane will provide her with a significant confidence boost come time to lace up the spikes in Osaka, knowing that she can not only mix it with the best, she can do it when it counts.

The Sandy Bay Harrier Club member will have one more outing in the 3000m Steeplechase in Lucerne, Switzerland on Thursday 28th June, prior to returning to Hobart for her final preparations towards the IAAF World Championships which begin on August 25 in Osaka.
