Banjo’s Campbell Town was swamped with competitors after the Banjo’s Campbell Town Tasmanian Road Running Championships today.

100 competitors took to the streets of Campbell Town in events from 3km – 10km, with competitors ranging in age from 10 to 80 years.

At the pointy end of the race, Kim Gillard became the Tasmanian 10km state champion, setting a new course record of 30min 33sec. which eclipsed Andrew Harding’s 2005 time of 30.58  Gillard opened up an early lead on Hobart’s Grant Page racing away strongly to a new course record from Page who ran 31.17 ahead of North West’s Bryan Lyons.

Gillard continued his run of victories in major Tasmanian events and currently holds the Point to Pinnacle, City to Casino, Tasmanian 12km Cross Country and now the Tasmanian 10km titles.

His wife Jenny, also defeated a strong field in the open women’s event taking out the event in 36.29 from Karinna Fyfe and Emma Butler.  Former Olympian and 2007 City to Casino winner Kylie Risk was looking strong early, but was unable to complete the second of the two laps as Gillard continued to push the pace.  Jenny Gillard’s attention will now head towards the Gold Coast Marathon in a fortnight, where she will attempt to defend her Australian title.
