Federation Walk & Under 20 10km Championships

Last weekend saw the annual event being held in ideal walking and spectating weather- bright, sunny, and cloudless and wind free conditions.

The fields for the day were received in record numbers for the Federation. It was a little disappointing that we were unable to send more of our walkers to this great event, and I hope that we may be able to rectify this next year, and in the meantime support the second Federation meet in Adelaide in July.

Congratulations to our two walkers, Lynette Bannister and Daniel Coleman who were our sole entrants on the day.

Lynette and her father attended the weekend and were very impressed with the whole scenario.

Lynette walked in the Open Women’s 10mile (16KM) event and the Open Women’s 5KM event later in the day.

Lynette had never raced over 10KM before and was extremely pleased with her efforts. She looked very comfortable and walked well to place 9th overall in 1.31.52 and 9th overall in the 5KM in 26.35.

Well done Lynette and we look forward to your longer walk events in the future.

Daniel, despite being very ill in the previous weeks in the lead up to the championships, carrying a new injury into the race and training hard at the AIS prior to the event, walked extremely well to record a “B” Qualifier for the World Cup in Russia next year. Daniel’s time was 46.47 and won the silver mead for his efforts.

Daniel also captured the Federation silver and the ACTAS silver.

Congratulations to both athletes on their great walks and participation.
