Distance Campers Survive Picturesque Coles Bay

09 Jun 2011

22 of Tasmania's best Distance Runners stirred the water and woke the hazards at Coles bay for a three night training camp.

The 2011 camp saw athletes discussing pathways in athletics, recovery and week to week training providing the athletes with the knowledge they need to be successful. Athletes were also encouraged to give feedback on the camps with many suggesting they wanted next years camp to go longer and more training squeezed in (these kids are crazy!!!).

Athletes took part in several Running sessions followed by a recovery dip to help prepare for the next session. Athletes also learnt some new tips and tricks on improving core strength and for some they found an area that would really need some improving between now and the start of the 2011-12 track season.

The training locations were perfect even if one might have smelt a little funny the trail itself was ideal for the cause.

Tasmania has a strong group of young athletes coming through at the moment and it is camps such as this one that can bring these athletes together and be a building block for a successful senior athlete.

With Distance running improving rapidly in Australia/Tasmania, this annual camp is sure to carry on for years to come and when you add the idealic location of Coles Bay it is hard to imagine why it wouldn't.

Although being bored by some of our talks it is hoped that the 2011 Distance Camp will encourage athletes on to a bigger and brighter future within the great sport of Athletics.
