Wayne Fletcher Perpetual Handicap Event

On Saturday the inaugural 'Wayne Fletcher Perpetual Handicap' event was held at the Domain Loop.  Wayne donated this trophy to our walkers and recognises Wayne's contribution to race walking within the Club and wider athletic community.  The event will be held annually on the Saturday closest to Wayne's birthday.

Our winners on the day were Sophie Eberhardt and Stephanie Holloway who battled over the 1500m.  Pushing hard was David Moore who after 3 kilometres was only 5 seconds off the pace. Daniel Coleman and Lyn Bannister found their handicap hard but again showed our younger walkers the style and dedication needed to reach the top.

Following the walk an enjoyable afternoon tea was held where it was announced that the "Rosemary Coleman Handicap Series" will be introduced.  The trophy is recognition of Rosemary's dedication to race walking and athletics in general.

The trophy will be held over 4 events with points allocated based on placing.  The winner will be the athlete with the least points (i.e. first place 1 point - second place 2 points etc).

Again it was great to see the number of younger walkers attending along with our regular senior athletes inlcuding Justine.
