2010 School Knockout National Final

The 2010 School Knockout program hit its peak today, with the national final being contested at Melbourne’s Doncaster track.

Tasmanian schools represented included Elizabeth College, St Virgils, Hutchins, St Mary’s, Friends, Fahan, Scotch Oakburn and Launceston College.

Several athletes produced quality performances, with individual wins coming from Max Waldron (Hutchins), Kaitlin Morgan (St Mary’s), Brent O’Leary (St Virgils), Rebecca Direen (Friends) and Grace Rowe-Smith (Friends).

Sprinter Max Waldron was a standout, winning the 100m (11.20sec), 200m (22.28sec) and anchoring his Hutchins team to victory in the Swedish realy.

Hutchins finished in 5th place in the intermediate boys, with St Virgils just behind them in 7th

The Friends School placed 12th in the intermediate girls, which was taken out by Catholic College Bendigo.

Elizabeth College was the top senior boys team from Tasmania in 8th place, with Hutchins just ahead of Scotch Oakburn. 

In the senior girls, Fahan placed 12th, with Launceston College coming in 16th position.

The National School Knockout competition involves the largest number of schools of any sport in Australia, with all states and territories involved.
