Hosie Throws Silver

Bellerive Primary student Matthew Hosie has claimed a silver medal at the 2010 School Sport Australia 12 years and under athletics championships in Bendigo today.

Competing in the 12 years and under discus, Tasmania had to wait until the final field event to gain its only medal from the championships, which equalled our performance at last year’s event in Sydney.

Hosie’s produced his best throw of 45.93metres in round 3.  The competition being taken out by Jack Bannister from Queensland.

“I started slowly and got a good throw in which gave me more confidence to go for more distance,” the youngster said from Bendigo. 

The annual event is the highest level that students aged 10, 11 and 12 in Australia can aspire to in track and field, with all states and territories in attendance.  “It was a really good experience, the atmosphere was awesome and was one of the best experiences ever,” Hosie added.
