NORTH LAUNCESTON –
North Launceston has successfully defended its title as
The club’s senior team won both the men’s and women’s divisions of the Tasmanian Clubs Championships held at Penguin on Sunday, in the process earning the right to represent the state in the Australian Clubs Championships which will be held in Hobart on 11 February next year.
The Club will also be awarded the Association’s prestigious Greg Blake Memorial Shield for the best total result.
AT President Brian Roe said that the Association was heartened by the intensity of the competition,
“In reality both the men’s and women’s competitions were very close and
“Both Eastern Suburbs and Sandy Bay gave them a very decent run for their money in the men’s division and it was really only the dominance of North’s women in the jumps and hurdle events that saw off a very strong challenge from host club, North West, which was in command in the sprints and throws.”
“We would also like to commend the efforts of all club managers, who each did a great job in assembling their squads on the day. We are very confident that this meet can really grow from here on,” Mr Roe said.
