INTERNATIONAL APPOINTMENT FOR TASMANIAN ATHLETICS OFFICIAL

Athletics Tasmania Vice President, Wayne Fletcher, has been appointed to the International Race Walk Judges’ Panel for the next four years by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

He was today advised of his inclusion by IAAF General Secretary, Pierre Weiss, who confirmed that the panel for 2007- 2010 would comprise an elite group of just thirty judges.

The Panel was selected by the IAAF after a rigorous testing programme held in Paris, France in early November.

Fletcher will be the only Australian, and one of only two judges from the Oceania region on the Panel.

The good news continued to flow for Fletcher, who was advised at the same time that his first appointment would be to the 2007 World Athletics Championships to be held in Osaka, Japan next August where he will serve alongside fellow Tasmanian, Brian Roe who will act as one of the IAAF’s technical delegates for the competition.

Launceston – 1 December 2006
