Season 2009

Summary

Season 2009 was another year of major growth for the club on the field.  Let's recap the main highlights:

  • Four from four sides qualified for finals action with the second nine making the B Reserve Grand Final for the third year in a row.
  • Successful hosting of VWBL A & A Reserve Preliminary and Grand Finals.
  • Successful hosting of Claxton Shield Victorian Aces v NSW Patriots game on our diamond.  Around 2,200 people turned up to watch a great game.
  • Joey Salanitri was awarded the VWBL B Reserve Grade Best and Fairest Player.
  • Long-time club member Paul Meissner's stella promotion as an umpire. This year he was selected to umpire the VWBL A Grade Grand Final. Yet another sign of our club contributing to the greater good of the game.

Season 2008

Summary

The club continues to exceed its’ own expectations with our firsts and seconds dominating their respective grades. It would have been a fairytale ending if our firsts had managed to win the B Grade title to go along with the seconds’ B Reserve title. This loss, after finishing the season four games clear on top of the ladder, left a rather sobering feeling around the club at season’s end. As a result it’s easy to forget that the club as a whole has actually experienced its most successful season since 1992. On this note let’s recap the main highlights of the season.

  • 40th year celebrations culminating in the construction and erecting of our Honour Board
  • VWBL B Reserve Premiership Title
  • Second year in a row of entering 4 sides in the VWBL
  • Three of the four sides made the finals with the firsts and seconds playing off for the B and B Reserve titles respectively
  • IV team entered in Australian University Games
  • New canteen and social area
  • Lorne Berger and Nitin Lamge won the VWBL B and B Reserve Grade Best and Fairest Player awardsrespectively. This is a first for the club in its 40 year history.
  • Successful hosting of VWBL A / A Reserve Preliminary and Grand Finals.

Season 2007

As for on field performance, the season as a whole was nothing short of a success for the club. The second nine and fourth nine made the Grand Final while the first nine just missed out losing their Preliminary Final. The third nine also had a promising season despite the team's lack of experience. After a trot of victories at the end of the home and away matches the thirds (who are made up of mainly La Trobe Uni students and alumni) just missed out on the finals race by one game. But the story of the season was the fourth nine winning their second premiership in three years.
