Junior Interclub

If you're a member of an athletics club you get to compete at Newtown Park, and other venues around the Wellington region throughout the summer. If you’re aged 7 to 15 years of age you can compete in these events, primarily on Sunday mornings starting at 10am.

Interclubs are heaps of fun. You get to practise what you've learnt at club nights, meet new friends from other clubs and see yourself improving week after week and even year after year. Dates of the junior interclubs and other competitions for this age group are listed below.

Get Set Go in Clubs

Athletics Wellington in partnership with some of our local clubs run Athletics NZ's Get Set Go programme. Get Set Go is an exciting initiative to help our Kiwi Kids develop the skills they need so that they can enjoy being more active through play and sport. In clubs it is primarily targeted at 4 to 6 year olds. Lots of new activities for kids and their parents to have fun with. To find out what clubs are running Get Set Go programmes contact Jo at jo@athleticswellington.org.nz

Athletics is for everyone!

2017-18 Athletics Wellington Calendar

There are Athletics clubs for kids throughout the wider Wellington region. Athletics is a fantastic sport. There is something for everyone no matter what your shape, size, strength or ability. The running, throwing and jumping events cover all the fundamental skills that are so important for your child's development.

Athletics Clubs

Club nights or club days give children the chance to have a go at a wide range of athletics activities, while additional training is available to kids who want to further improve their skills. Interclub competitions are on offer most summer weekends where kids aged 7 to 15 years get to compete against other clubs.

If you have children of different ages who love athletics then it's a great sport for you too as there is one venue for all ages!

College-age and Adult Athletes

For college-age athletes and adults there are Saturday afternoon competitions at Newtown Park throughout the summer. These Track and Field programmes include a whole range of events. It's at college age when events such as javelin, hammer and pole vault are introduced.

For a calendar for the 2016/17 season which includes the Saturday afternoon Interclub events, Grand Prix Meets and Regional Meets as well as all the dates for secondary school athletics go to our the EVENTS page on our Athletics Wellignton website.

At the regional meets athletes get the chance to compete against other clubs from the lower North Island. For the 2016/17 season the regional meets are in Hastings, Wanganui and Wellington.  Get a group together and travel up for the day. These regional events often finish with relays - a good way to end the day. To enter for these Central League meets you need to contact your club administrator.

A number of our clubs provide training for college age athletes, and if they don't they'll be able to put you in contact with a number of coaches in the Wellington region who specialise in coaching this age group.

If you’d like more details about athletics and cross country for this age group please contact Jo Murray on jo@athleticswellington.org.nz or 021 976116.
