2020/21 President's Welcome

President’s welcome

A Message from President: Emily McLellan

Annual President’s Report 2021-2022 Season

Dear SLAC Community,

A big thank you to all our athletes and families, and a massive thank you to our Committee Members and those in regular roles/duties who have been contributing to our mornings and twilight meets every week. Without our volunteers our programs could not go ahead, your time is truly appreciated.

We have had a busy full season, with many achievements by our athletes each week with personal bests and our centre as a whole community coming together to get as many children as possible back into the sport. The first half of the season was mostly centre-based weekly competitions, which was good for us to focus on our weekly meets and signing up new families/athletes.

At the end of Jan, the State Combined event was held in which we had 8 athletes represent Seaford and having a fun weekend together and challenging themselves to come away with many pbs. We encourage more members to attend the Combined event next season.

In Feb we had our Coles Community Round which shows our appreciation to Coles as Little Athletics' major sponsor and to extend our Coles partnership we wore a splash of red. We also had a Coles activities centre with egg and spoon races and banana relays.

On the weekend of Feb 12th & 13th, 24 athletes competed at the Southern Metro Region Track and Field Carnival at Caulfield. There were many pbs, fun, smiles, tears and cheering as well as 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. A big congratulations to all our athletes and a big thankyou to their families for supporting us over the weekend; we worked together well to cover duties and work as a team with great community spirit.

We came together to hold our Open Day and with registrations from all over Victoria, we knew it was going to be an amazing day. The one thing we could not order was the weather, but with a few last-minute changes all athletes got to compete, and we had loads of great feedback.

The Little Athletics Victoria State Track and Field Carnival was held in March and all our athletes did us proud. To qualify is a massive achievement, as in most events, it means the athlete is in the top 24 athletes in the State. It is also an awesome opportunity to gain confidence in a variety of competitions and compete on the famous blue track. Many athletes achieved personal bests and we do have athletes that are among the top athletes in the State, congratulations on every achievement made.

Our member numbers have been steady over recent years, with last year being a big growth year, that growth number was always going to be a challenge to beat. Thankyou Leonie our Registrar and Rachelle Secretary for making the process easy for new members and getting them all signed up quickly.

We are incredibly lucky to have many dedicated volunteers who do the same roles every week, and we thank them all very much. At our AGM we will be looking for roles to be shadowed in order to train new and younger families in planning for the future of the club.

As the 2021/22 Track and Field & Cross Country season has now ended we look forward to welcoming you to the new 2022/23 Summer Season in October-March. This a reminder that we offer Cross Country in your membership, so we are hopeful to see many athletes attend our Cross-Country program from April to August.
