SUMMER ATHLETICS

JUNIOR CLUB NIGHTS ARE ON WEDNESDAYS

  • 5 years and over            Start time: 5.00 to 7:00pm approx  


Finish times may vary.

Club Nights never be cancelled. A modified programme will come into effect in the event of bad weather.


Athletes must wear the club uniform with their Colgate Patch numbers attached. Bring a drink bottle.

A parent must attend and help out. The club relies on parents’ to provide coaching and encouragement.

OUR PROGRAMME

The programme alternates every other week to cover basic track and field events - we aim to provide two running races, one throwing event and one jumping event each club night. The programme is tailored for different age groups.

Children  participate in 4 events, plus a skill drill/activity once every 2 to 3 weeks.  The events differ each week based on the programme for the evening but will usually include 2 running events (100, 200, 400 and 800), 1 throw (discuss or shot put) and 1 jump (high or long) event.  They finish at about 7pm.

We measure results.  This allows each child to see their progress and to have individual goals, whether they usually come first or last in their group. It is normal for children with the same chronological age to span about four “developmental” years.

We offer training to parents so they can learn the basics and how to best-help the children.

Half of the cross country events are team events.

Most of the events are held in the afternoon so this enables children to take part in winter sports on Saturday mornings.
