The Club is soon to commemorate its 50th anniversary, the celebrations of which will begin in the morning of Saturday, 10 September 2016. The ‘Season Opener' will be a special gala event at the Club’s home field: Waratah Oval, Rawson Avenue, Sutherland.
Free activities will include a “Pirates of the Caribbean” jumping castle and slide, an age related long hitting competition from a tee, an age related accurate throwing competition and a Jelly Bean guessing competition.
There will be prizes for the winners of these competitions.
The canteen will be stocked with the usual fare of goodies - sweets, drinks, hot dogs and tea or coffee. Fairy Floss will be on sale too. The BBQ will be running during the day for those seeking a baseballer’s breakfast or mid-morning snack or a “greens-free” lunch. There will be some Lucky Numbers on offer with generous cash prizes too. So come along, bring the family and stay a while.
Every registered St Pat’s T-ball, Zooka and baseball player will receive a gift from the Club marking the significance of the 50th year milestone.
The Club will be taking orders for a very comfortable, light weight, smart polo shirt with a 25% SPF or sun protection factor, which has been designed to commemorate the occasion. The shirt will be available in short or long sleeve. Sample sizes will be available to try on at the Season Opener.
Watch this page for further announcements of upcoming celebratory news on this historic occasion as it comes to hand. Make sure though that you clear the following key dates in your calendar: Sunday 4 December 2016 and Saturday 18 March 2017.
A President’s versus Patrons’ Team Challenge will be the December event. It will bring together current and former players selected by the respective Team Managers. The line ups will include former Junior Baseball Players of the Year, representative players and many well-known identities from within the Club. Although the nature of the event is primarily social, it will be conducted in the way of an All Stars Game in Major League Baseball and player pride will ensure it will be a very much contested activity.
The final celebratory event will be a dinner at Tradies on 18 March 2017, which is the day after St Patrick’s Day. This will be an occasion to convivially celebrate the Club and its service to baseball since its inception. The programme is yet to be finalised but it will be a fun night with special guests, live music and a chance to renew acquaintance with players, officials and supporters, past and present.
Thanks for being a member of St Pat’s. Be active in the Club and please especially engage in the season long celebration of its contribution to the great game of baseball.
