Mitch Ellis flies into battle for the Hawks

Doncaster Dragon Mitch Ellis is a long way from his home town Diamond Creek and as they say he is "living the Dream".  Mitch has just returned to the United States for his first season of College baseball.

Mitch and his family have been a huge part of the Doncaster Baseball Club for more than 13 years.   Mitch played his entire junior and senior summer baseball with the Dragons.  The Club is very proud and excited for Mitch and the unbelievable opportunity he is  experiencing.

Mitch is attending Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois around 100 miles outside of Chicago.  Mitch is a member of a very talented baseball team.  The 2015 Heartland Hawks baseball team was ranked 13th in all of NJCAA Division 2 by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.   The team has been very successful over the years and the players have had continued success moving to 4-year colleges and continuing on to play professional baseball.

Over the past 7 years, the Heartland Hawks have had a very impressive 325-78 (.806) record and advanced to the NJCAA Division-II World Series three times.  Here is hoping 2015 is another exiting season for Mitch and his team mates.

Heartland start their season on March 6th, although looking at the cold weather for the next week it is hard to believe!

And as if Mitch can not get enough baseball, he has also been invited to play in the South Florida Collegiate League over the US summer (June - August).   The SFCBL is a collegiate baseball league based in the heart of South Florida.   The League provides amateur players an opportunity to showcase their talents and further develop their game.   What an amazing opportunity for Mitch.

We want to wish Mitch all the best for a great season!   Go Hawks (and that is not the Hawthorn Hawks!).  You can follow Mitch and his team at: www.heartland.edu/athletics/baseball
