Demons burn Dragons as Westphal strikes out another 13

It's a measure of just how dominant Luke Westphal has been that giving up two earned runs in six innings is his worst outing of the season.

Westphal was again impressive, as shown by his 13 strikeouts, but the Doncaster Dragons could not produce enough run support as they lost 6-2 to Melbourne at Surrey Park on Sunday.  Demon infielder Adam Burton became the first player to hit a home run off Westphal with a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Against solid pitching and sometimes spectacularly good defence, the Dragons were held scoreless for the first six innings. In the seventh, Brendan McDonald opened the scoring when he singled and scored on Travis Cutt's double.  The Dragons doubled their score an inning later when Scott Carr doubled and was driven in by Ben Utting with his third hit of the game.

To avoid a season sweep against the Demons, the Dragons will need to win their next encounter, the final game before the Christmas break at Deep Creek on Tuesday night.
