Huw named Sportsperson of the Year
The University of Tasmania Sports Awards were held recently, congratulations to Huw Peacock on being named the UTAS Sportsperson of the Year, and to Emily Canham & Thomas Wilson on receiving Half Blue Awards.
Huw was selected on the back of his Australian representation at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where he completed in the Hammer throw, in addition to being second on the Australian rankings for 2018. Emily was awarded her Half Blue for representing Tasmania at the Australian Junior & Open Championships plus representing UTAS at the Australian UniSport Games, where she won gold in the Hammer and Silver in the Javelin. Thomas Wilson was recognised for representing UTAS at the Australian UniSport Cross Country where he placed sixth overall and for being part of the UTAS Athletics Club Tasmanian Cross Country relay team which took the gold for the third consecutive year.
In addition to our UTAS members, Nick Graver (SB) was awarded a Half Blue and Meriem Daoui (NS) received a UTAS Sports Scholarship. Congratulations to all and our sincere thanks to the University of Tasmania for their ongoing support of students participating in sports.
