Welcome Back - 2014 - 2015 Season News Up-date 1

Welcome back to all.

This year we are able to implement a Skills Session into each week’s program.

This will operate on a rotational basis, thus some children will do skills on long jump whilst others will do skills with running or discus and so on.

After the approximate 10 minutes of skills group, the program of jump, throw and sprint events will then commence, with parent helpers.

Skill groups will be in the little athlete age groups and conducted by Chanelle, Nikki and Shane, who have additional skills in coaching all events. Just sometimes their skills and knowledge may be better in one area than another. From time to time they may have to adjust some coaching to suit the age or abilities of the little athletes.

Remember .... everyone gets a go. Lower the bar if needed. Move the mat in. All the members are here to improve their own times and lengths (trying for their ‘personal best’) whilst encouraging others and having fun.

Hats: Are to be worn whilst children are waiting their turn.

Remember: Sunscreen. Water bottles and spare water.

First Aid: There is a first aid kit located in the sheds and our first aid co ordinator is Chanelle if anyone requires treatment whilst they are at the centre. Shane is there to assist, too.

Handbook: On the Centre Website ‘About’ page. FAQs and all the essential information for 2014-2015.

Parent helpers are here to help and assist where possible and they try their best and should be respected. We need lots of parent help with setting up the equipment and putting it away. You may not be able to come that little bit earlier or stay later every week, but whenever you can, it will be a great help. Also, during the event we need parents helping out with raking the sand pit for long jump, recording results, starting, timing, adjusting the high jump bar and the hurdle heights, looking after an age group and more … so that everything runs smoothly. Also, with everyone helping out, this gives a chance for all the parents to see their children competing.

This year we have the following parents on Executive and Committee: Shane, Nikki, Chanelle, Annabel and Kym ... anyone who wishes to suggest improvements for the club and our program and implementation are encouraged to contact one of the Executive and Committee members.

We need to know the good and the bad .... We cannot fix something or make it better if no one tells us. This includes anyone with ideas for games or warm ups! If you have an idea, please let us know.

We hope you enjoy 2014-2015 Little Athletics.

2013 - 2014 Third Season Celebration

Henley Park on Lake Wallace was the perfect venue for a celebratory BBQ for Edenhope Little Athletics families and friends in the early evening of Tuesday 25 March. It marked the conclusion of the third Summer season for Little Aths in Edenhope.

The sound shell was a great presentation stage. Every member received a Medallion. This season, thirty-seven children were presented with a personal medallion.

Aggregate Awards were presented to athletes in each age group who accumulated the most points throughout the season. Aggregate Awards can be achieved by any competitor whether they are a champion or someone who attends regularly. Four points are given for a first placing, three points for a second placing and  two points for a third placing, with one point being allocated for each event completed.

Personal Best Awards were presented to athletes in each age group who accumulated the most personal bests throughout the season. A personal best is an improvement in any event over the previous best for that event. Athletes must attend seventy per cent of available competition meets to be eligible for Aggregate and Personal Best Awards.

McDonald’s is a Gold Partner for Little Athletics Victoria. This season, McDonald’s Family Restaurants (Horsham, Hamilton and Warrnambool) came on board as a Local Sponsor and contributed the cost of all the Medallions and Trophies. The Bendigo Bank Edenhope continued as a Major Sponsor ($500) and other Donors included Cheryle and Tony Williams – Cheryle’s Coffee Blitz, Jann Roper – Edenhope Therapeutic Massage Clinic and Nicole Robinson.

Sam Foster and Laura Aspinall from the Hamilton McDonald’s Family Restaurant did a lovely job connecting with the children and assisting Nicole Robinson the Centre’s Recorder and Results Coordinator and Shane Adams the President with the presentations. Appreciation was expressed to all the parents and family members who attend the weekly competitions and assist with all the tasks of running Little Athletics like warm-up activities, raking the long jump sand pits, timing, the races, helping with putting the equipment out and away, supporting the children in each age group and coaching.

The 2013-2014 Quiet Achiever Award was Rachel Duggan (Under 10). This award is donated by Cheryle and Tony Williams, Cheryle’s Coffee Blitz, and includes payment of the next season’s registration fees. Cheryle and Tony’s association with Little Athletics goes back many years to when their own children participated.
