105km Ride

On Sunday 18 March 2012 join Pedal Power and the Amy Gillett Foundation for the Big Canberra Bike Ride incorporating Amy’s Ride. By participating in this ride you will be supporting the safety initiatives of the Amy Gillett Foundation as well as the healthy heart initiatives Heart Foundation.

Late Entry Fee

Adult (+18yrs): $75

Youth (13-17yrs*): $65

Child (3 – 12yrs*): NA

*If under 16, you must be accompanied by an adult throughout the ride.

Rider Kit Postage

Online entries for the Ride include rider kit postage.

You must register by Midnight Thursday 8 March 2012 for your rider kit to be posted.

Entries received after this date will be required to collect their rider kit from the Federation Mall behind Old Parliament House the day before or the morning of the event.

Rider Kit Collection

For riders registering after Midnight Thursday 8 March 2012, you will be required to collect your rider kit at from the Federation Mall behind Old Parliament House from 2-5pm Saturday 17 March or 7-9am Sunday 18 March.

Start Time

8:20am for the safety briefing and helmet check to be held on the start line

8:30am official start

Helmet Safety Check

It is a requirement of the ACT Police that all participants wear a helmet that is in good condition and meet Australian Safety Standards for the event. It is mandatory for all participants to have their helmet checked prior to commencement of the event, which will be conducted as riders are marshalled to the start chute. If your helmet does not meet the required standards, you will not be able to ride in the event.

Route

The ride starts and finishes on Federation Mall, behind Old Parliament House.

The Ride exits the Parliamentary triangle over Kings Avenue, along Parkes Way to Coppins Crossing, past Stromlo Forest Park (for a rest and refreshments), out to Uriarra Crossing, over Mt Macdonald and down to Cotter, then back in past Stromlo Forest Park ( for more rest and refreshments) before challenging yourself with another loop of Uriarra-Cotter. Then, head back along Cotter Road - fitting in a final rest stop at Stromlo Forest Park - and Adelaide Ave, around the Parliamentary House and right into the Event hub.

You must start the second lap of Uriarra Loop before 12 noon, else you will be directed to proceed to the finish and follow the 68 km route - your average speed will have been under 15 km/h if you start the second lap at noon and that would result in you riding late in the afternoon to finish the 105 km route.

Route Support

Follow the lead Subaru escort vehicle and enjoy a partial road closure (single lane, all road rules apply) until you reach Parkes Way.

Safety for all riders is paramount. As part of the Foundation's focus on awareness and safety on the road - take comfort in having marshals, a 'sag-wagon', mobile mechanics and mobile first-aid around the course.

Signage

Follow the pink AGF arrows around the course with friendly marshals to show you the way.

Refreshments

Take a rest stop mid-way through your ride for free refreshments, and a enjoy great view of Canberra from Stromlo Forest Park.

Photography

Look out for the Epsom Rd Studios photographers along the course in their fluoro vests and get your photo taken on the ride. Make sure you take note of the time on the clock positioned up the road from the photographer. As this will be how you search for your photo after the event.

Photos will begin to appear on the Epsom Rd Studio website from Monday 19 March and all photos should be available by Tuesday 20 March.
