Junior Bowls Tournament at Halls Head

This Tournament has been held for a number of years in the Murray League.  Last year it was held at the Mandurah Bowling Club for all participating schools. This year it was split between Port Bouvard and Halls Head. 96 students from Living Waters, Halls head, South Halls head, Frederick Irwin (2 teams) and North Mandurah came to our Club.  The schools are also competing against each other in other sports as well.

Apart from South Halls Head, who have received coaching every Friday afternoon, I doubt whether any of the remaining students have tried lawn bowls before.  However the students did pick up the game quickly and generally ‘put down’ a bowl wonderfully well. The students were from years five and six.

The tournament was organized by our Director of Junior Bowls, Jacki Henry in association with the local schools and on the day Jacki was ably assisted by a band of about twenty four helpers from Halls Head Bowling Club.

The kids certainly had a great time and with a bit of luck we may be able to attract some future pennant players.

The winner at our bowling club was a team from Frederick Irwin with 20 points. Closely followed by North Mandurah on 19 points.

The overall winners were from Riverside Primary with 22 points, St Damian second on 21 points (playing from Port Bouvard) and Frederick Irwin was third with 20 points.

This year has started on a high note with the four ''senior' Juniors coming second in the Jan/Feb Corporate/Community Bowls held at the Halls Head Bowling Club.

Coaching for Juniors is on Monday afternoons after school.  Currently we have Juniors aged from 9 to 15 and we would love to have more.

Please ring/email the Office for more details.

Junior Singles Champion for 2016, James Crisp, being presented with the perpetual shield on Monday 4th April.  It was our Juniors End of Term Wind Up and a great opportunity to present James with the shield in front of his Dad, Nana and the other Juniors and their parents.  As Jacki was away at Country Week I did the presentation.

Thank you to Bendigo Bank and the Club for supporting the Juniors’ program and enabling it to be able to have these celebrations.

 Many thanks

stiff competition. Well done boys.
