Melbourne Storm Development, in conjunction with ARL Development and the Victorian Rugby League will be running a number of secondary schools rugby league round robin competitions throughout Victoria in 2011.

Year 7 & 8 The Robbie Kearns Shield is offered to Year 7/8 students.  In previous years, there has been two separate divisions – one for Year 7 students and another for Year 8 students.  2011 will see these divisions merge and become one.  The number of players on the field has also changed from seven to eight.  The tackle form of the game is available to males whilst the tag component is offered only to females.  To qualify for the state finals day your school needs to win their division based gala day. Gala day dates will be set by the development officer assigned to your region.  To find the development officer for your area, please visit then click on the link ‘devlopment’

The Cameron Smith Shield is for year 7/8 students and is a 13 aside competition.  To qualify for the finals day your school needs to with their divisional based gala day.  The date will be set by your development officer.

Year 9-12 competitions are broad-based programs, and schools are invited to enter these programs by contacting the Melbourne Storm Development team directly. The competitions offered usually have 2 days to choose from. We aim to offer a South East Day and a North West Day, with the winners of each day playing finals on an agreed date.

For all year 9-12 Gala Days, schools are encouraged to contact their Development Officer to register and to book in any coaching clinics prior to the day.

See general conditions of competition.

All schools competitions are conducted under the rules of the Australian Rugby League with modifications depending on individual competitions and age divisions. Participating schools will be forwarded specific rules for competitions on entry. Competitions will be played using the ARL Safe Play code which includes the modification of tackling zones.

The draw and composition of games will be determined by the number of entries.

The Victorian Rugby League and Melbourne Storm will supply uniforms for schools unable to provide uniforms for their teams. It should be noted that at 8 aside events, PE or sports uniforms are suitable.

Schools wishing to enter competitions should contact the convenor at the ARL/Melbourne Storm on the phone number above.
