Format:

Round Robin

Match Format:

Scorers from both teams must sit together and confer on the scores during a match.

In the event of a draw, time is still called.

If after a completed innings, there is less than 5 minutes to play, time should be called;

If time and game interrupts an innings, the score reverts to the previous completed innings, unless the team batting second has passed the score of the team batting first.

Teams are to consist of 9 or more players.  If less than 9 players, then where a spare batting position occurs, there is an automatic out.

A team must have a minimum of 7 players, otherwise the game is forfeited.

The 'Nine Batter' rule applies at all levels:-

If during an innings all nine players have a turn at bat, then if the ninth player makes it to first base, all players on bases make runs and the side is away.

If the 9th batter is the first or second 'out' then any players on bases make runs and the side is away.

The ‘10 Run Rule’ will apply after five completed innings and the ’15 Run Rule’ will apply after three completed innings.

The champion team will be decided on matches won.  If two teams have won an equal number of matches then the team that won the head-to-head match between the two tied teams will be declared the winner.

Length of matches:

Yr 7, Yr 8 - 70 min or 7 equal innings. Int, Snr - 75 min or 7 equal innings

Lateness Penalty:

If a team is late for the start of their match and, in the convener’s opinion, their lateness makes the draw impracticable, the team will be penalised 1 run per each completed 10 minutes of lateness.

Dress:

All teams must wear softball uniforms with matching tops and pants.  No jewellery is to be worn.  Navel rings must be taped.

Catchers must wear a helmet, leg protectors, a face mask (with a throat protector) and a chest protector during games and during practice (or warming up).

Helmets must be worn by batters when at bat and when running the diamond.

Competing Schools' Responsibilities:

Competing schools are to supply one competent linesperson and one competent scorer with a scorebook.  A score sheet can be found in this handbook.

Equipment To Bring:

One new leather competition ball.  All own equipment: bats, helmets, and gloves.  Catchers must wear full protective equipment including a facemask with a throat protector.
