Competition Format:

Competitors may complete in only one age group for which they are eligible. They may, however, compete in an event in another age group for which they are eligible, if there is no identical event in their own age group.

Hurdles events are identical irrespective of distance.

Once a student has participated in an age group at Division level they must remain in that Age Group through to State Level.

12-13 year old and 14 year old walkers must compete in the 15 year old events.

Competitors may compete in a maximum of five individual events and one relay.

Ages are calculated as at 31 December in the year of competition.

Competitors must report to the marshalling area for their event at least 5 events or 20 minutes before the scheduled time or when called.

All competitors should wear their school colours and be properly attired for athletics.

Competitors must wear spikes or runners for all events.

Lanes will be constant for ALL events.

While schools may replace relay competitors with eligible competitors up to the event, all changes to individual event competitors must be made by the relevant division coordinator and communicated to the School Sport Officer at least two school days before the championships.  No changes can be made after this time and students who compete in breach of this condition will be disqualified.  Note, in the event that the program is postponed to the backup day or beyond, changes to individual events will be allowed provided they are advised to the School Sport Officer at least two school days prior to the new championship date.

The boys and girls walks and 1500m events will start together in each age group.

When clashes between track and field events occur, competitors report to the chief judge of the field event first, then attend the track event. Competitors should return to their field event immediately to complete their three throws/jumps.  In high jump events the competitor will enter/re-enter the competition at the height at which the bar is set at the time of return.
