The State Track & Field Championships are the culmination of the track & field competition season. This coming season the Championships will be held on Friday to Sunday, 18-20 March 2016 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. (See Conditions of Entry to SOPAC).Athletes in the age groups U9 through to U17 are eligible for this event. Qualifying to State is via performances at each of the 8 Regionals.
The State Track & Field Championships will have up to 24 competitors in every individual event
The 24 competitors have been determined as follows: -
Automatic Qualifiers (up to 16 competitors across the eight Regions)
Additional Performance Based Qualifiers
To determine the additional performance based qualifiers, all athletes (from finals) after the automatic qualifiers, across all Regions, will be collated and the best eight determined. Where there were equal performances for the 8th position, all athletes on that equal performance will be excluded. (ie. Some events may have less than eight additional competitors).
There are now qualifying standards for the 1500m Walk (12 minutes), 3000m Run (14 minutes) and High Jump (athletes must have cleared the state starting height for their relevant age group at region to progress. The starting heights can be found in the Rules of Competition). Athletes who cannot complete their events within these time/height limits at the regional carnivals, irrespective of placings (including auto qualifiers), will not be considered for progression to the State Track & Field Championships.
The additional performance based qualifiers for each of the three days of the State Track & Field Championships is posted below following the completion of all eight Regions.

Hart Sport merchandise will be available for sale at State Championships. So you don't miss out, put your order in with your centre, who will have order forms at the 2016 Region Championships.
Events for Para Athletes are included in the Little Athletics NSW State Championships. These are direct entry, athletes do not progress from zone to region to state. Some zones and region may offer events for PARA athletes. The athletes must be made aware that if they compete at zone or region this does not mean that they automatically progress to the next level.
Entries will close Wednesday, 24 February 2016. There is NO entry fee. Proof of classification forms part of the entry and must be forwarded to LANSW prior to the close of entries. You can send this via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org: Post to: LANSW, Locked Bag 85, Parramatta 2124 or Fax: 9633 2821.
The following events will be available for PARA athletes: 100m; 800m; Long Jump; Discus.
The events will be conducted in the following age groups: -
All events will be conducted as multi-disability events. Competitors will compete against a multi-disability standard time or distance for their disability classification. Placings will be determined by the competitor’s time/distance calculated against a percentage of the multi disability standard for their classification.
The entry Process (will be available early in the season)
ONLINE entry is preferable, or you can download the MANUAL entry form (when it becomes available later in the year), print out and send to LANSW. Note. All entries must be complete and a copy of classification forwarded to Little Athletics NSW before close of entries. This can be via fax, email or post (details below). Please note that current proof of the athlete’s disability classification MUST be submitted to Little Athletics NSW for the entry to be accepted.
NOTE: Proof of classification MUST be submitted with an entry even if the athlete has previously competed in these particular championships in these events.
Direct entry refers to the fact that the athletes competing in the multi-disability events at the State Track & Field Championships will not have been required to compete at the Zone or Region Championships in order to qualify. Rather, a simple entry procedure will apply.
NOTE: Athletes who are nominating to compete in the multi-disability events at the State Championships may choose to also compete in able-bodied events at the Zone, Region and State Championships. Athletes may, however, only qualify to compete in a maximum of four individual events at the State Championships.
Athletes are not permitted to compete in both the able bodied and multi-disability version of the same event.
Rules & Event/Equipment Specifications
The PARA events will be conducted according to the LANSW Rules of Competition (2014 Edition). It is the responsibility of all athletes, their parents/guardians and their coaches to make sure they understand the relevant rules and how they operate. (To find these rules go to the NSW section of the Little Athletics website. Click on ‘Competitions’, then ‘Rules of Competition’).
All PARA athletes who compete at the 2016 Little Athletics NSW State Track & Field Championships must have received at least national provisional classification PRIOR to the event.
Classification is a way of grouping athletes of similar function or ability for the purpose of competition. Classification exists to try and create a “fair” competition amongst athletes with different disabilities.
The following disabilities can be classified for athletics and therefore be eligible to compete in the multi-disability events: -
T/F 01 - Deaf or hearing impaired
T/F 11-13 - Visually impaired
T/F 20 - Intellectually disabled
T/F 32-38 - Cerebral Palsy
T/F 40-46 - Amputee & Les Autres (includes Little People)
T 52-54 - Wheelchair (track)
F 52-58 - Wheelchair (field)
T/F 60 - Transplantee
See the Little Athletics NSW Classification Guidelines for Athletes with a Disability for more information about classification requirements.
