Rookey Coaching Programs

Below are the Rookey Programs for the 2014 & 2015 season.

All of the basic skills are focused upon in a simple approach to ensure ease of understanding for both the coaches and the players.

Please do:

  • Adapt, adjust and change the programs / drills to meet the needs of the participants
    Adapting drills and progressing drills to suit the needs of your group is the sign of a great coach - Great job!

  • Join in and have fun with them and learn / play together
    A fun session is a productive session, if we join in as coaches we build relationships with the players and gives them a role model

  • Repeat drills / exercises / games that were successful / the group enjoyed
    Repetition and doing drills participants are familiar with or enjoy increase skill acquisition and fun

Please do not:

  • Use these as a complusory programs or a Hockey Bible
    These are progressive drills and also ones that need to be adapted where possible to meet the needs of the group you are working with. If you can adapt or improve the resources offered it is how you develop and think outside of the box as a coach!

  • Allow big queues at anytime
    If there are 10 participants and everyone has one go at a time they are playing for 10% and waiting for 90% of the time!
