PARRAMATTA PARK NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Alzheimer’s Australia NSW is privileged to have access to the beautiful Parramatta Park for the 2009 Memory Walk. Like all natural environments, it is fragile and needs to be cared for, so please do not drop any litter along the walk routes or in start/finish area. Please use the recycling and rubbish bins provided.

SHARED ROADS
Cars are still able to access Parramatta Park during the Memory Walk. We ask that all walkers take care when crossing roads and follow the directions of the Volunteer Walk Marshalls and Parramatta Park Rangers at all times.

TRANSPORT TO AND FROM THE EVENT

Walkers can come to Parramatta Park by car, bus or train. Parking is available within the park and the surrounding streets. For information on public transport to Parramatta Park please contact State Transit on 131 500 or at www.131500.com.au. AANSW reccomends the use of public transport where possible.

PARKING
If you are coming by car, there will be parking close to the Walk start, within Parramatta Park. Please enter the park via Pitt Street and follow the Memory Walk signs. At all times, please be directed by the Volunteer Parking Marshalls. There is also street parking available in Hunter, Macquarie, George and Marsden Streets, next to the Park.

DISABLED PARKING
Only vehicles with RTA Disability Stickers will be able to park in designated disability parking spaces. If you want to ensure that you have a disabled car space at the event, please phone Alzheimer’s Australia NSW on 8875 4626 to register your need for a space. Please note that disabled spaces are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. At all times, please be directed by the Volunteer Parking Marshalls.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
At the Newington Armory Wharf end of Jamieson Street there is a roundabout. Vehicles can drop-off people in wheelchairs or people with limited mobility at this point. DO NOT park your vehicle here, but move to a designated car park as soon as possible. Please be aware that there are small gauge railway tracks crossing over sections of the main event entertainment site and also at several points on both walk routes.

FIRST AID STATIONS
There will be two first aid stations, one at the Walk start/finish area and one at the walk half-way point. Please ask any of the volunteers or Alzheimer’s Australia NSW staff, who can be identified by fluorescent coloured safety vests, for directions to nearest first aid station.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY
If you see a walker in difficulty or you experience difficulty yourself, please ask your fellow walkers to assist by contacting the nearest volunteer or Alzheimer’s Australia NSW staff member, who can be identified by fluorescent coloured safety vests, and they in turn will contact the first aid stations by phone or 2-way radio.

There are toilets (including disabled) located at the Walk start/finish area as well as along the walk routes. Please see the map of Parramatta Park for detailed location information.
