Clubs are now in full swing for the second half of the summer season, so we hope you are all set for Centre Championships, National Championships, School Championships and all the other athletics events going on at this time of year.

The recent Australian championships doubled as a test event for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. A big group of Kiwi athletes and officials were there to compete and test the facilities.

In this issue of Athletics in Action we chat with world champion shot putter Tom Walsh on how he plans to stay on top of the world, we talk to pole vaulter Nick Southgate about finally qualifying for a major event after a few years of bad luck and we catch up withup and coming 400m hurdler  Anna Percy for our “Five minutes with …” segment and lots more.

Anti Doping update

Coaches, managers and support personnel – your role in clean sport
Support personnel are essential to create a culture of clean sport that rejects the use of performance enhancing drugs and methods. Few people will have greater influence on an athlete’s approach to training and competing than their support personnel.
Your own attitude towards doping and following the rules is crucial in ensuring that the athletes you work with compete clean. To complete the clean sport ‘Coaches e-learning programme’ online, please click here
