People within the club – know more about them
This week - Vesna, Melissa and Joanne
These three ladies are from one of the founding families of the SDFC and Mel and Jo were kids when the club was formed by people like mum Vesna and their dad Frank Carbone Snr. On the weekend at the Crocs Home Game there they were running the canteen for the club that their family, their own families and their extended families have been involved with most of their lives.
All of the boys (the Carbone boys) have played for SDFC and most of their sons and nephews and in Vesna's case most of her Grand Children. Paul Carbone (Vesna's oldest son) is a foundation player in just about every grade the club entered into the NTFL in the 1980's and including being a Inaugural 'A' Grade player when the club played in the first year of League in the NTFL. Then there is Joe and Frank Jnr who along with Paul are not only champion Litchfield Bears Rugby League players who within the early years of the SDFC became SDFC Premiership junior players for the Crocs too. You only have to ask any old timers at the Bears about the Carbone boys and the Junior and A Grade Premierships they played in.
Jo has been the current club Secretary for the last three seasons and it is not her first time on the Comittee. She has been on the Crocs committee three different times spanning over the clubs history.
So next time you see these ladies say thankyou very much for their and their families commitment and dedication to the SDFC, without them the club wouldnt be here and as great as it now..

10 years celebration function - 3rd December
The upcoming 2016/17 NTFL season marks the 10th anniversary of the 2006/07 NTFL season SDFC Premier League and Under 16s Premierships. It is also the only season the SDFC has played in the Reserve Grade Grand Final but lost to Waratah. If anyone has any photos or clips or stories from that season it would be great to share.
The SDFC had a great season and along with the two Grand Final wins the club won the NTFL Club Championship Award as well. The League and Under 16s teams had already taken out the Minor Premierships by finishing on top of the ladders in the 'Home and Away' season games before the finals started.
Brothers Shane, Andrew and Luke Hodges all played in the Reserves Grand Final which they unfortunatley lost but did the club proud. Shannon Rusca, Captain of the League Grand Final winning team had his brother Robbie (Robert who was a club champion in the League teams of the 80 and 90s) playing in the Reserves Grand Final. And Tom O'Shaughnessy who played played in the League Grand Final had his younger brother Jack playing in the under 16s Grand Final winning team.
For more achievements that season read the story at the bottom left of this newsletter.
There will be function held on the 3rd of December at the Michael Long Learning Centre at TIO Stadium. Already players from the Premier League Premiership winning team now living interstate have committed to coming up for the event. It is not only a event for the players it is a event for all club spporters. All supporters are welcome. With the interest so far the event is going to be a great one. More info will be out in the newsletters soon.
50 games for Allison
Well done to Womens Premier League player Allison Wilson who has played her 50th game for the SDFC. Allsion is a inaugural player for the Crocs Womens side playing from when the club first entered a Womens team into the NTFL in the 2013/14 season. Allison was so keen to play footy when moving from down south to Darwin as soon she heard that the Crocs were entering a team she couldn’t wait to get here. Allison has the great honour of being the first Womens player to play 50 games for the SDFC. A great effort and has her name in the clubs History pages..

Great news stories out of the CROCS
There are so many positive news stories happening at the Crocs this season. Along with the so many young players playing in the seniors teams and seeing their development and Crocs juniors getting chance in the Mens Premier League side it is really getting back to Grass Roots footy for the SDFC. Mens Div One players are getting a run in the Premier League side and playing very well. Juniors are having a run in the Mens Divisions teams and playing very well as well. The young Premier League Womens team under the coaching of Bill Feeney jnr is getting stronger and are coming together very well, and have already notched up a win. The Boys Under 18s team coached by Mens Premier League Captain Matt Cannard is undefeated after three very good wins to start the season and the Girls Under 18s team is developing well too with a win on the weekend.
Looking at the coaching and team staff personal of the club now is very impressive also with many of them being former Crocs juniors, Premier League players, Nichols Medallists, Premiership winners, NTFL and SDFC Player Life Members and current Premier League players as well.
Many people going down to the club to watch the games over the weekend saw it was very refreshing with seeing the culture building at the club in the senior grades. Seeing players in each grade working in the bar on a roster and the supporters being able to be served by players was so great to see. And they are doing a great job too. Plenty more helps are required to volunteer. Any little bit of help is muchly appreciated. Please contact the club to offer to help out.
Along with the seniors players helping out with the bar each senior team is also having a turn at organising an event over the season. The first one being on this Saturday night organised by the Womens Premier League team. It’s all come about from the stability of the seniors teams with a core group of players in each team each season and coaches who have been in their roles over a few seasons. Great to see all now getting involved in the clubs activities.
So much positivity the future is looking very bright.
If you are at games and take photos please share them with us on Facebook. It would be great to see some photos of the Crocs teams playing. Click on the photos below to see more pics on the SDFCCROCS facebook page
