October is the busiest month for many people in the sport. It’s the start of the summer season and many clubs come out of hibernation to set up for the next six months of athletics action.
There are registration days, have-a-go days, the start of clubnights, Saturday competitions to plan, Colgate entries to think about, volunteers to recruit and train and the list goes on!
So a big thanks to those valuable club people who are making it all happen.
When you turn up at your local club, spare a thought for all the work that goes on behind the scenes and make the effort to thank those responsible, or even better, offer to help out.
The Athletics NZ Community Athletics team are also putting in some big hours at this time of year, supporting clubs, training club volunteers, facilitating training for officials and coaches, answering lots of questions and just being there for clubs at this busy time of the year.
In this issue of Athletics in Action, we look offshore to Alaska and talk to a Kiwi decathlete who has just finished his studies and is now looking forward to representing New Zealand. We also speak to a Canadian coaching legend who is coming to NZ for some upcoming workshops.

There’s more in this issue of Athletics in Action, so keep reading.
