What are we going to do now that the Olympics and Paralympics have finished? The hours spent glued to our televisions and computers will have to be replaced with something!
Well, have we got just the thing for you! September is mostly gone and we are in the grips of spring with all that crazy weather, so that means that summer is not far away at all and that means a Summer of Athletics. If you’re waiting for the start of the summer season, it’s almost here!
Next weekend we have the very popular NZ Road Relay Champs on a brand new course in Rotorua. Based on the Rotorua Marathon course this championship attracts the highest number of participants of any of the Athletics NZ Championship events.
For the ultra endurance people the NZ 24 hour Champs will be on the same weekend at AUT Millennium in Auckland.
In this issue of Athletics in Action we talk to one of our most versatile distance athletes who finally won a major NZ title after a string of minor placings, and we caught up with a double Olympian who has decided to hang up her spikes.
There’s more in this issue of Athletics in Action, so keeping reading.

NZ Paralympians impress

Our eight-strong Para-Athletics team have returned today from Rio. Their achievements have been no less than astonishing, coming home with nine medals, setting four Paralympic records along the way and capturing the hearts of New Zealanders. Who will forget the powerful sprinting by 'blade runner' Liam Malone, the superb long jumping by a surprised Anna Grimaldi, or the powerful throwing trio of Holly Robinson, Rory McSweeney and Jess Hamill, or the great running by 16 year old William Stedman. Find out more about their performances at our Rio 2016 Paralympics Page
