Hi Clubs!

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that the second half of the Track and Field season has been a success.  Over the last couple of months, we have loved catching up with clubs, coaches, officials, parents and volunteers across New Zealand at various events and roadshows (for those centres that have had theirs). You have all done an amazing job delivering athletics to your communities, keep up the great work.  
You will notice we have a brand new look to the Club Chat newsletter. We hope you like it.  In this newsletter read about how the Get Set Go programme kicked off 2016, details on club affiliation and an important date for all your diaries, Club Connect 2016. 

Club Connect Conference - Save the Date

Novotel Hotel – Ellerslie, Auckland
August 6 2016.  9am - 4pm

We have some exciting and helpful topics planned for this year… so make sure your club locks this date in your diary. It’s always a great opportunitiy to share ideas and learn from other clubs.  This year’s conference will have something for everyone and will be relevant to both senior and junior summer and winter clubs.  Timetable and registration details will be out later in the month.

Get Set Go - Kicking off 2016

Get Set Go has had a busy February/March with three Get Set Go events happening throughout the country.

On February 25 at the Waitakere Trusts Stadium we delivered Get Set Go to 400 local school children. They participated in a mass warm up followed by 10 different activity rotations which were run by Rosmini College students. Teachers and parents were all invited to come down and join in. The feedback we have received has been very positive. “A huge thank you for the great day at the Stadium yesterday-our children had a wonderful time and your organisation was superb” – Glendene School. This event was part of the Douglas Waitakere Athletics Festival - a whole day event celebrating Athletics which finished with the Auckland Track Challenge in the evening.

On March 1 our Wellington Get Set Go regional coordinator Vanessa Chatfield gathered some of her coaches to be a part of the Lower Hutt Fundamentals Festival. This involved 350 school students aged 5 – 8 years old having a go at a range of sports. Get Set Go had 3 stations set up with a focus on skipping, running and dodging. From this they are hoping to get more schools signed up for the school and club programmes in the region. 

Last but not least on March 2 the Otago Regional athletics development officer Annelies Inghelbrecht in conjuction with Athletics NZ organised 11 schools (320 children) to participate in the Get Set Go Dunedin event held inside the Forsyth Barr Stadium. It was a similar set up to the Auckland event but for this one we were fortunate enough to have four amazing New Zealand Representative Para-Athletes attend. They brought along their medals and demonstrated their skills which was a huge highlight for the children. It was also great having support from three of the local athletics clubs – Athletics Taieri Club, Ariki Athletics Club and Leith Athletics Club. Feedback has been very positive.

Member Club Affiliation

Athletics New Zealand Member Club Affiliation is open for the 2016/17 Season.  The process is the same as the previous two years and will require clubs to fill in an online form.  The purpose of this form is to gather up-to-date contact details to improve our communication with all clubs.  The form will take around 10 minutes to complete and will require you to enter key club contacts (E.g. President name and email address).  All clubs will have received a log on for your club portal where you will be able to update your primary contact details and manage your club membership at any time.  

To register you club please follow the instructions below.  A friendly reminder that clubs need to be affiliated (payment and online form filled in) before your members can be registered.  If you have members in some of the early competitions please make sure you are affiliated.

Registration Process:
1.    Click Link: Athletics NZ Member Club Registration Form
2.    Fill in online form
3.    Pay Fee: Like last year clubs will be given the option of paying their Member Club Affiliation Fee online using a credit card or alternatively receiving an invoice for alternative payment once the form is filled out and submitted online.  Please make sure you pick the correct option at the start.

The invoice needs to be paid before 8 June 2016 (60 days prior to the 2016 AGM) to enable your club to vote at the 2016 AGM.

Introducing Kerrie Mott

Kerrie has recently started at Atheltics NZ in the role of Membership and Club support.  Her main role is to support and assist clubs in using ClubNet (The Athletics NZ Membership database).  She looks forward to working with you all.  If you have any queries regarding ClubNet get in touch with Kerrie Mott kerrie@athletics.org.nz or 021 368 516.

Club Finder - Update your Details

This is a good time of year to make sure all your club details are up to date in Club Finder.  Club Finder is the Athletics NZ club search engine on our website that allows potential members to search for clubs in their area.  It’s in each clubs best interest to be on Club Finder and have their contact details up to date so potential members can find you.
