Entries have closed, what happens now?

Now that the entries have closed, BA staff, lead by Events and Competition Manager Mark Casey, will hunker down and begin creating the draw for the event.

The draw for the event will be released in mid-May, and participants will then know exactly which day they will be playing their sectional matches and at which of our wonderful host clubs.

In the meantime, participants are encouraged to contact our office (03 9480 7100 or admin@bowlsaustralia.com.au) with any questions about the event or visit the Australian Open website.

In the meantime, make sure you check out Visit Gold Coast for all your holiday planning needs!

Player to watch - Carmen Anderson OAM

NAME - Carmen Anderson OAM

CLUB - Cabramatta, New South Wales

MOST RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS - 2016 World Cup singles champion and 2015 Asia Pacific Championships singles runner-up.

Carmen Anderson OAM spent many years playing on Gold Coast greens as she was a member of the Tweed Heads Bowls Club for some time; now Anderson is a member of powerhouse Western Sydney club Cabramatta alongside the likes of Karen Murphy and Claire Turley.

Carmen has been to five Commonwealth Games, representing both her birth country, the Philippines, and now Norfolk Island.

Anderson will be a player to watch out for, particularly in the singles field at this year’s Australian Open, having won a world singles title back in 1996 and most recently the 2016 World Cup defeating Australia’s Carla Krizanic and Malaysia’s Siti Zalina Ahmad in the finals.

Anderson is always in the mix at major singles events, whether it be on the international stage or domestically at events like the Golden Nugget or the South Tweed Ladies Prestige Singles so look out for one of the pre-tournament favourites when you’re watching all the action across the 15 Gold Coast bowling clubs during this year’s Open.

Before the Australian Open kicks off, tune into SBS on Sundays at 1pm to catch the highlights of Carmen’s victory in the World Cup Singles at Warilla.
