NSW Alpine Thinair Fun Run Sponsored by Ski Japan.com - Change of Date

NSW Alpine are running a community fun run now on Sunday 29th June, 2014 at Thredbo Golf Course from 2 to 4 pm.

Anyone can run or walk - all age groups

There will be a BBQ and prizes! Come join in the fun.

NSWACT Alpine Teams 2014

Congratulations to the following athletes who have been selected to the 2014 NSWACT Alpine Open and Junior teams. Teams and selection criteria can be found on the NSW Snowsports website in the Alpine section.

2014 NSWACT Alpine Rising Stars Award

NSWACT Alpine, Perisher Winter Sports Club and Thredbo Ski Racing Club have combined again this season to offer this exciting Award to talented Interschool racers without previous race club experience.

9 Alpine racers from Division 3, 4 or 5 across the Sydney, Northern or Southern/ACT regions will be selected for this year’s Alpine Rising Stars.

2014 NAC And SSA Alpine Equipment Initiative

The National Alpine Committee and SSA are happy to publish the 2014 Equipment Initiative and would like to thank Atomic, Head, Rossignol and Salomon for their ongoing support.

Exclusively through this initiative all registered SSA children and FIS members will have access to race stock equipment from these four world’s best brands.
 
These four brands make up the top 4 of the FIS Brand Rankings on the World Cup Circuit. This is an incredible opportunity for Australian athletes to access this calibre of equipment.

Freestyle Team App – Ready for Download Now
NSW Freestyle has recently launched a smart phone app called Team App for download.  If you ski moguls, slope style, or any other free skiing discipline then we strongly encourage you to download it and keep up to date with developments. Click here for more on this story.

Jump Shaping and Chopping Course
NSW Snowsports will be running a training camp for parents and volunteers interested in mogul course preparation. The course will be run by Peter Topalovic the Australian National Coach. The course will be run from 11am to 2pm on July 26th at The Man Hotel in Perisher. Click here for more on this story.

Mogul Parent Volunteers Required
We are looking for a team of volunteers to help out with the Junior Nationals and National Moguls competitions this year.  The volunteers will be required assist with course preparation including jump shaping and chopping landings.  The work will be spread over approximately 6 days during the season and will include training. Click here for more on this story.

Freestyle Squad Hoodie
NSW Snowsports, will be offering a freestyle squad hoodie for this Winter.    The hoodies are a soft shell water resistant fabric made by Thuggies of Canada.  The hoodie is specifically designed for snow sports with the freestyle athlete in mind.

Australian National Moguls New Partnership Announcement
The Man from Snowy River Hotel, at Perisher Valley, has partnered with NSW Snowsports this year to support the Freestyle discipline through sponsorship and event hosting. Snowboard Emerging Talent Award

The Perisher Winter Sports Club has joined forces with NSW Interschools and NSW Snowsportsto offer this exciting Award to talented Interschools riders without previous Snowboard Club experience.

6 Snowboarders from Divisions 4 or 5 across the Travelplan Ski Sydney, Travelplan Ski Northern NSW or Subaru ACT-Southern Interschools Championships will be selected for the first ever Snowboard Emerging Talent Award.

Introducing the Australian Jnr XC Champsionships at Perisher Nordic Trails

The Ski Australia Cross Country National Discipline Committee (SAXC) has introduced a stand-alone Australian Junior Cross Country Championships event to be held at Perisher on the weekend of  26th and 27th July. The event will closely follow the format of the 2015 World Junior Championships and 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

NSW Cross Country and NSW Biathlon MEGA RAFFLE

The “skinny skis” skiers have put together some great prizes for a MEGA Raffle fund-raiser with tickets to be sold from now until the end of the July School holidays. Some great prizes are on offer including 2 nights accommodation and 4 lift passes to Perisher Blue from The Station Resort and well as a snowshoe tour from Paddy Pallin Mountain Adventure Centre and gift vouchers from Wild Brumby and Aldo’s.

Many thanks to all our prize donators and all proceeds raised will go towards supporting the training and coaching programs of the NSWXC State Team and Squad together with accommodation support for interstate races. The Raffle will be drawn at the NSWXC State Championships on Sunday 13th July at the Nordic Shelter.

The Perisher Free Ski Sessions - July 17th to 18th

The SSA Futures: Perisher Free Ski Sessions is a Talent Identification/ Talent Development initiative developed by SSA with support from some of Australia’s top Pro Free Skiers, including; Russ Henshaw Jordan Houghton, Charlie Timmins, Johny Lipzker and more.

With an aim of identifying potential talent in the discipline of Slopestyle Skiing, the sessions will also enable talent development opportunities amongst athletes who a current members of various SSA Pathway Programs or train on their own individual program. The sessions will aim to introduce athletes to ‘what it takes’ to become an elite athlete, the progression of skills in line with Long Term Athlete Development principals, the opportunities that are available to athletes in the pathway, the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games selection process as well as providing the opportunity to train alongside some of Australia’s top athletes on the facilities and courses that they use. The Sessions, sponsored by the Rob Kneller Youth Foundation, Perisher, Skiers Junction and K2 Skis will provide plenty of give-a-ways for all.

The Free Ski sessions will run off the back of the 1st Playstation Night Slopestyle Series event on Tuesday 15th July and the Thredbo Freeride series on Saturday 19th, which provide athletes the perfect platform to execute new skills learned on the program.
