March 2014 edition

President's Message

Swimming outdoors during the summer has been a pleasure. Living where I do in Adelaide, winter pool swimming means swimming indoors. While my backstroke is a lot straighter indoors, there is nothing like swimming outside in the sunshine with a blue sky above.  I am looking forward to the Nationals next month in Rockhampton. I had a look at the pool while on holidays there last year and the facility looks excellent.  I’m also quite excited about the open water swim at Yeppoon; not having had an open water swim since Perth in 2011 has added to the anticipation.  I look forward to seeing you there.

We have recently had board elections and there have been some changes. Thank you and congratulations to Therese Crollick, Susan Kempson and Ivan Martinovich. I am always impressed how whenever there is a need, there are people willing to step forward and do things for our organisation.

We also have two retiring board members in David Cummins and John Pollock.  Both David and John have been excellent board members and excellent advocates for Masters Swimming Australia. They have given of their time freely and have always been willing to do whatever is needed.  Thank you David and John.

Craig Smith
MSA President

Congratulations to the nely elected NBM Members

International feel to MSA

After contacting the MSA office in January, Lisa Cloitre from USMS's Boston City Masters, joined MSV's Powerpoints for a session on the Australia Day long weekend.

"What a great Saturday morning with the Melbourne Powerpoints." said Lisa. "Thank you so so much for everyone's help, generosity and friendliness. Yesterday's swim, breakfast and new friendships will go down as a highlight of my trip, for sure!"

At the conclusion of the session, some international cap swapping was seen taking place between Lisa and Pointer Kath Russell.

Lisa also joined MSTas's Hobart Aquatic for a session as she made her way around Australia. In an email to MSA, Lisa thanked Hobart for adding to her connections and memories in Australia.

How to manage training around life and life around training
