         September 2013 Edition

Welcome to our Spring edition of the eNews

For me this is an exciting time of the year, as I prefer to swim outdoors. My local winter pool is the new South Australian aquatic centre, which is an excellent facility; but I much prefer being outdoors in the sun and the fresh air. The sea is also starting to warm-up and open water swims are not that far away.

As the outdoor pools open for the summer season, the opportunities for swimming increase dramatically; so if you haven’t swum during the winter, get out there and get  into it as soon as you can. The health benefits of swimming are manifold not only for physical but mental health as well. Swimming always makes me feel better.

Thanks to the generosity of Masters Swimming Queensland, the National Championships will be held in Rockhampton in 2014. It is an opportunity to take our premier event to a regional centre and showcase Masters swimming. I’ll certainly be swimming there and I look forward to seeing you there as well. It will be an ideal opportunity to combine a swimming meet and a holiday in an area that has plenty to offer the tourist.

I know that for the majority of our members, Masters swimming is about a healthy lifestyle, swimming with a likeminded group of people and not about competition. We are always looking for ways to better serve our membership and are constantly on the lookout for new and innovative ideas and programs. So if you have positive suggestions please let your club, branch and MSA know about them.

I think Michael Phelps summed up swimming very well when he said “Swimming is normal for me. I'm relaxed. I'm comfortable, and I know my surroundings. It's my home.

Best wishes for the summer swimming season. I look forward to seeing you in the water.

MSA President
