2013/14 NSWIS Scholarship Holders

NSW Snowsports wish to congratulate our member athletes who have recently been announced as 2013/14 NSWIS Scholarship holders. These athletes have been selected based on their overseas performances and achievement of NSWIS selection criteria’s.

The program targets athletes in squad programs for the disciplines of freestyle moguls, snowboard halfpipe, boarder cross and ski cross. These programs provide selected athletes with world class training facilities and coaching with a focus on supporting athletes competing at an open international level, which is vital leading into the Sochi 2014 qualification period.

SERAS Snowsports Athletes Ready for Winter

The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) Snowsports Program held its first training camp for 2013 at the University of Canberra (UC) on the weekend of the 11th and 12th May.

On day one of the camp the athletes were put through a battery of fitness tests by SERAS intern students and a physiotherapy screening with Phil Newman from UC. In the afternoon the athletes moved to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for specialised coaching sessions. Finn Marsland, the Cross Country Skiing National Team Coach conducted ski ergo testing of the cross country athletes. The entire squad also participated in an acrobatics session in the AIS Gymnastics Hall with Anthony Khoury, a coach from Ski and Snowboarding Australia. The day concluded with a pool recovery session with the SERAS intern students.

Snowracer and NSW Snowsports

Snowracer and NSW Snowsports – an exciting and important new initiative for NSW Snowsports Members and Recreational Snowsports Competitors.

Each season, over 25,000 individuals compete in snowsports events and races. Many of these are members of Clubs competing in their Club races, corporate racers, Interschools racers, other school based ski/snowboard competitions.

Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA), as the National Sporting Organisation for snowsports in Australia, has developed “Snowracer” which is a free membership program established to identify and engage with the many recreational racers on the NSW ski slopes.

NSW Snowsports has joined with SSA to offer Snowracer membership program to the NSW Snowsports member clubs and event participants – at no cost to the Clubs, event organisers or the individuals. By doing so, SSA and the NSW Snowsports are able to provide a higher level of protection for participants, event organizers, resorts and most importantly, NSW Snowsports SSA members, through a specific competition Personal Accident and Public Liability Insurance Cover.

Play by the Rules

Play by the Rules was first developed by the South Australian Department for Sport and Recreation in 2001 as an interactive education and information website (www.playbytherules.net.au) on discrimination, harassment and child protection in sport.

Play by the Rules provides information, resources, tools and free online training to assist administrators, coaches, officials, players and spectators in preventing and dealing with discrimination, harassment and child safety issues in sport. It aims to influence attitudes and change behaviours, which hopefully leads to positive cultural change in sport and recreation environments.
