               June 2013 Edition

Welcome to our Winter edition of the eNews

We hope you are enjoying being a member of a Masters Swimming Club this year.   A major ingredient for this is plenty of Fitness, Friendship and Fun as the year hits it's solstice!

MSA has a number of projects on the go including the refresh of the logo and the branding of all MSA properties to provide a consistent and attractive image, reviewing the OWS Rules and compiling an OWS Organiser's Manual and the preparation of a Member Protection Policy that covers all levels of our sport. The approval and/or launch of these projects will occur at the upcoming Spring General Meeting.

Congratulations and a heartfelt thankyou to the MSNSW Organising Committee who delivered a wonderful National Championships in Sydney in April. There are some fabulous photos of the action in and around the pool in the report below.

MSWA recognise a great contributor - Kim Tyler

There are many people who provide wonderful volunteer service to our organisation and it is important to recognise them all in some way.  MSWA has selected one of their most outstanding volunteers during the past eight years. This member has been involved in different areas and at every level  of this sport, so to go through the pages of achievements for Fremantle’s Kim Tyler would take the rest of the day!

Vorgee Million Metres - Congratulations David Bale

A big congratulations to David Bale from Tuggeranong Masters, MSNSW who joined the Million Metres Club in August 2012. David was presented with his certificate and polo-shirt in March 2013 at the State LC Championships.

It took David just over two and a half years to achieve his million metres, which is a pretty impressive time period  to gain this award. David said that his 5+km swims of a morning with Steve and the Woden swim club kids contributed tremendously to his getting there in such a short time period. David’s desire to reach that million mark resulted in his high level of fitness during that period.

If you are new to any club, why not start logging all your swims at training, in endurance swims and race meets.  All of these count towards your Vorgee Million Metres Award which is open to all registered members of Masters Swimming Australia.

National Coach & Official of the Year

Congratulations once again to Brenton Ford of Powerpoints, MSV on his nomination and award as 2012 Coach of the Year and to Di Partridge from Cessnock, MSNSW on her nomination and award as 2012 Official of the Year.

Presentations were made to both Di and Brenton at the Presentation Dinner at the National Championships and Brenton was also awarded the ASCTA Masters Coach of the Year at the recent ASCTA Coaching Conference and Presentation Dinner held on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

2013 National Championships in Sydney - been and gone!

There were lots of records broken and many personal best times set at the championships but the fun was on the pool deck and in the stands. You just had to be there to soak up the atmosphere.

The feedback was positive - 'I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the running of the Nationals and with the spirit in which the event was conducted by officials and competitors'.

'Given the number of races conducted over such a short period, I thought it was remarkable that the timetable was maintained without any apparent histrionics on the part of officials or competitors'.

Volunteers Needed - Why not take the first step and complete the timekeeper course and learn to take and record times correctly? If not for you, tap someone else on the shoulder to get them involved, sometimes people just need to be asked!

After timekeeping you can progress to any of the other technical positions and eventually become a referee. READ MORE about why we need you!
