It has been a long time coming, but the revised Aerobic program, now known as Vorgee Endurance 1000, is ready to be launched in 2012. It is web based (accessed by the internet) with some minor improvements to the program. 74 Clubs took part in the program in 2010 and a similar number are involved again this year.

The program is a very popular club activity to encourage endurance swimming throughout the year. To find out more CLICK HERE or visit the MSA website.

  New club profiles

There have been two new clubs join the masters swimming family in recent months:

Central Aquatic (WA) - pictured

Masters Swimming is back at Bayswater Waves!

Over the winter months a keen group of adult swimmers has been enjoying stroke correction and training sessions as part of the Central Aquatic Swimming Club with support and encouragement from the wonderful staff at Bayswater Waves.
The initiative has been supported by the City of Bayswater who recognised the benefits of having a Masters Swimming Club in their community. Central Aquatic Masters has formed as part of Central Aquatic Swimming Club under our One-Club model.  President Jeff Dittrich is the driver of the new Club which has a core group of 20 swimmers enjoying regular training sessions from a volunteer Coach.

T'Bay Triggers (QLD)

Central Cairns Masters Swimming Club (or more commonly known as the T'Bay Triggers) are a One-Club connected with Central Cairns Swimming Club.  The majority of adults that have formed this new club are competitive members.

Ten Tips For Masters Swimmers - Peter Reaburn

"The Masters Athlete" - A great Xmas present idea!
As an athlete, I have always had a passion for understanding my body and how it responds during exercise and adapts to training. As a sport scientist with a research interest in older athletes, I am lucky enough to be able to stay on the pulse of research that is undertaken on aging athletes.

I have compiled 10 tips for masters swimmers. These are based on 46 years of high-performance competition in sport and 25 years of reading and conducting research. I hope the suggestions help you.  READ MORE....
MSWA Thornlie Coach saves a swimmers life

The last thing Helen McPherson remembers before waking up in the emergency room of the Royal Perth Hospital was having just finished her warm up laps in the Thornlie pool and chatting with a friend. Thanks to her quick thinking and CPR trained swimming coach, Pam Badani and other swimmers, from the Thornlie Masters Swimming Club, she is alive today.

  Loch Ness Monster Swim

My first OWS in competition was at the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast in November 2008, at the age of 55, despite swimming in the surf since I was four.

Since then, I have completed fifteen open water swims - all different, but lots of fun! My  most recent one is one I definitely wish I had stayed at home instead of competing in.............  READ MORE...

  Incident Reporting Procedures
MSA provides a national insurance program that covers all our Branches and their Clubs with a Liability and Professional Indemnity cover and their members with a Personal Accident insurance policy.
  • When an incident occurs at training or during competition, an authorised official is required to complete the incident report form and submit it through your Branch to the National office.
  • When an injury is sustained, the person responsible for dealing with the injured person must complete the injury report form and submit it to your Branch.
  • When an injury is sustained and a claim is necessary,  download the claim form from the website, complete it and submit directly to the insurer QBE. The submission details are on the form.

The current reporting and claim forms are available for downloading from the Masters Swimming Australia website. CLICK HERE

  Sally Thomas appointed NT Administrator

Sally Thomas has been the President of Masters Swimming NT for the past seven years and she has just been appointed the Administrator of the Northern Territory (a position similar to that of State Governor in the Australian states). We congratulate Sally on this appointment and hope that she can still take the time for an occasional swim with her Darwin Stingers club.

  Postal Swims in 2012

If you are looking for a swimming challenge and a goal for your training, a postal swim might be for you.

A Postal Swim is a swim in which clubs or members from different clubs compete in an event organised by a Host club but in which they are not required to swim together at the same venue. Masters Swimming Australia has sanctioned four postal swims in 2012 and each of them is very individual and challenging.

  • 1 January – 30 April - WESTS Auburn Masters 5000m "Turtle Swim"
  • 1 May – 30 June  - Bunbury 3x400m Winter Postal Swim
  • 1 July – 31 August  - Tuggeranong Trifecta
  • 1 September – 31 October - Aquajets Taskmaster
