IGA Asks SA - Who Are The Unsung Heroes In Your Neighbourhood?

IGA ASKS: WHO ARE THE UNSUNG HEROES IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD?

Volunteer, dedicated coach, caregiver, fun-maker or general ‘good guy’? We’re not looking for super stars – we’re just looking for those who make a difference

As our nation’s greats compete for sporting glory, it’s a good time to remind ourselves that there are many people who have helped those athletes along their golden journey. It’s also important to remember that being a hero doesn’t stop and start with sport - An Unsung Hero might be the person who’s always volunteering to help someone less fortunate. Maybe they turn the sausages at the footy club sizzle, maybe they make cakes for the shopping centre raffle, or maybe they dedicate hours to share and pass on an important skill.

Nominations for the IGA CCUH Awards opened on August 18 at www.iga.net.au and close 30 September 2008.  Each regional winner will be awarded with $250 worth of IGA vouchers and a $250 cash donation will also go to their charity or organisation of choice.  These winners are then automatically in the running to take out the state prize, which is decided by an online public vote.  The state winner’s chosen charity or organisation will be rewarded a further $5,000 donation.

“The IGA network is all about offering local convenience and choice to local customers.  We very much want these awards to be about rewarding local residents, which is why we are administering local and state prizes,” Mr Farrell says.

Through its Community Chest and associated programs, which sees a percentage of specially marked products go directly back to local communities and other worthy causes, IGA has donated more than $30 million back to Australian communities in the last five years.

Nominate your favourite unsung hero online at www.iga.net.au before September 30.
