Dear FIRSTNAME

As the temperature gradually heats up we turn our attention to the forthcoming summer athletics season and focus on the health of a thriving Cambridge Athletics Club. Celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, their kids section is booming with chairperson Andrew Langman explaining the value of fully embracing Athletics NZ's Run Jump Throw and Get Set Go programmes.

Persistence has been the watchword for two athletes who feature in our latest edition of Athletics in Action. Sam Wreford has long been one of New Zealand's premier distance runners only for nagging injuries to hamper his development. The Timaru athlete offers his take on his athletics journey so far and why the New Zealand Half Marathon champion believes his best is yet to come. Auckland mum-of-three Penny Peskett is another who has required patience to produce her best. Now aged 41, Penny snagged the New Zealand Road title last month and offers a glimpse into her busy world by answering our regular Five Minutes With questions.

Nga Puna Wai Update

It is exciting to see the speed of progress made, and all the activity at Nga Puna Wai preparing the facility for use and the season opening competition at Nga Puna Wai on 20 October.

There is still a lot of work to be done between now and then to get our new facility ready. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our team of volunteers who are spending countless hours ensuring everything is ready for our community to use at our new home.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone down at Nga Puna Wai over the coming season.

Ian Thomas, General Manager, Athletics Canterbury
