Rankings
We’ve now hit 80,000 individual performances in our Athlete Rankings after the NZ Secondary Schools! That’s a huge number of performances to be added individually by our statistician Steve Hollings over the years. A reminder that athletes can only be added into the database if they are financial members of an affiliated club. The rankings section of our website features athlete profiles, yearly ranking lists, all-time lists and NZ records.

Drug Free Sport NZ update
We hope you made time to chat to the Drug Free Sport NZ (DFSNZ) team at the NZ Secondary School Champs. They looked very busy on the final day of the champs.
The WADA 2018 Prohibited List has been released and there are a number of changes that athletes need to be aware of, including the increase in Intravenous (IV) Infusion limits and the removal of Cannabidiol from the list. The more athletes know, the better they can manage the risk of a positive test. Athletes should take the time to read through this short list DFSNZ has put together, highlighting some of the top 2018 Prohibited List changes and prohibited substances that impact athletes.

Important for Athletes, Coaches and Officials:
Rule 180.17 Time Allowed for Trials.
The recent IAAF rule amendments include changes to the time allowed for trials in field events. This has caused some confusion, so to clarify, the time for all events other than Pole Vault is now 30 seconds while more than three athletes remain for vertical jumps.
The time commences when the official indicates the site is ready for the athlete, generally by calling the athlete’s name. Once 15 seconds has elapsed a yellow flag is raised and held up until the full 30 seconds has been reached. At this point if the athlete has commenced their attempt it should not be disallowed. If they have not, then the red flag will be raised.
It is important that the athlete is prepared prior to their name being called and is ready to quickly move to the start position. It has been noted that many athletes are using 12 to 15 seconds to get into the circle, so half of their time has expired before even positioning themselves. The official has no provision to extend this time to allow for this, but needs to ensure all is clear when calling events where part of the track is used for High Jump and Javelin.
For further clarification about this rule, please contact our Officials Development Manager
