The excitement levels have been through the roof for athletics fans and February was simply exhausting!
The Auckland Track Challenge lived up to all the anticipation and was a unique event with some truly world class performances. We hope you were among the many thousands who either were at the event or watched the well-produced livestream production.
Next weekend, we’ll see the event which for many athletes and fans  is the highlight of the summer season – the Jennian Homes NZ Track & Field Championships to be held in Hamilton after an 18 year gap.
In this issue of Athletics in Action we pose eight questions that will be answered at the Track & Field Champs and we have a chat with Olivia Burne on her interesting and varied running career in New Zealand and the US.
We also find out more about Tauranga sprinter Joseph Millar in our Five minutes with… series.
There's much more news in this issue of Athletics in Action, so keep reading.

Auckland Track Challenge

What an amazing meeting the Auckland Track Challenge was! We had a very enthusiastic crowd that got up very close to the action and the athletes certainly didn’t disappoint. The fans got a real treat with a fantastic shot put contest and some world class performances in the Harcourts Cooper & Co pole vault on offer. Not only did we have a great crowd, but we had almost 30,000 people watching the livestream of the event. We were thrilled with the event and hope you enjoyed it too.
Over the three events in the series (with the Vertical Pursuit and Mike Greer Homes Big Shot  & Fast K) we saw various records broken no less than 14 times.

Survey

Athletics New Zealand is undertaking a survey to find out about what is important to members and how members view their experience with their club.
Last week members should have received an email from Nielsen inviting them to take part in the survey. The invite will have contained a link to the Nielsen survey. It’s very important that as many members as possible complete the survey, as the results will provide guidance to Athletics New Zealand on how we can help clubs improve the experience of their members.
Thank you to those members who have taken part in the survey already. If you haven’t had the chance to yet, we encourage you to take part and have your say before the survey closes on 20 March. Thanks.

Coaching Corner

As the summer season comes to a close, it’s a good opportunity to thank all the coaches who are involved in athletics. From the coaches of Olympic athletes to parents who help out with coaching at their children’s club, we at Athletics New Zealand are very grateful for the time and effort you put in to help out in our sport. We would really struggle without your help, so from all of us involved in the sport a big THANK YOU COACHES!

While some officials are very experienced and at the top of their game, we also value immensely the contribution from those starting out as officials. You will be the future of the sport.  So as the summer season ends, THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS OFFICIALS!
