Lillehammer is hosting the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games. Across 10 days, February 12-21 2016, 1100 young athletes (15-18) from 70 nations will compete in 70 medal events.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the list of 15 Athletes Role Models (ARMs) who will support the young athletes going to the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games from 12 to 21 February 2016 in Lillehammer, Norway.

Selected by the Winter International Federations whose sports will be featured at Lillehammer 2016, the list includes many legendary names from the world of sport, including Olympic and world champions. In Lillehammer, they will play a key role in supporting, mentoring and offering advice to the 1,100 young athletes who will be participating in the Games.

The ARMs will be accessible to the athletes in the Youth Olympic Village and during a series of educational activities and workshops within the Learn & Share Programme. These activities will focus on areas such as skills development, how to lead healthy lifestyles, environment and social responsibility, and Olympism.

Who is Sverre Andreas Kaaten - Australian Dictionary of Biography

Have you ever wondered about the man behind the name of the Nordic Shelter - Sverre Kaaten? Following is a brief bio of this man's amazing life.

Sverre Andreas Kaaten (1908-1991), skier and businessman, was born on 26 July 1908 at Kongsvinger, Norway, third of seven children of Andreas Eberhardt Kaaten, timber merchant, and his wife Olga, née Lie. Sverre began skiing at the age of five and had jumping skis by twelve. He tackled Oslo’s famous Holmenkollen ski jump as a teenager. Hopes to study architecture were dashed by family financial problems, and instead he joined a paper-making mill. Aware of the existence of Australia’s snowfields and with an uncle running a paper business in Melbourne, he sailed for Australia in March 1928.

NSW Junior Series

The NSW Junior Series was held recently over two weekends.  The first leg at Thredbo, concluding with the final weekend at Perisher on the 8th August.  The event was filled with lots of action and saw competitors as young as six years old competing against some of our most promising 19 year olds juniors.  The level of competition was very high and we saw many tricks being thrown at all ages which were unheard of at this level even five years ago.  Sophie Ash one of our most promising Junior female skiers completed her first Back-full trick in competition and became one of only a few girls in the World to achieve this on snow. We also saw young Will Feneley throw his heart stopping front flip and many other amazing tricks.
