Nordic Shelter - Expression of Interest

If you have observed the resident winter managers of the Nordic Shelter skiing, shovelling and letting the community know what is happening on the XC trails, you will have seen that they are both busy and having fun.  The position for winter 2015 is now open for Expressions of Interest.  If you can imagine yourself there, read the EOI document attached and get back to this address.  Maybe a “snow change” is what you need!

Nordic Shelter - Donation Form

As always, the Nordic Shelter depends on volunteers and donors to provide the services that it does to the XC community. Winter 2014 was a successful one from every angle - many thanks to the individuals, clubs and organisations that donated time, funds and other resources. Volunteers put up their hands and enough funds were donated and raised to establish an ambitious maintenance plan for this summer and maybe the next.  More funds and more volunteers are always needed and appreciated - if you can help out in any way, please let us know (hint, a donation form is attached below).

XC Ski Week 2015 - Sat 1 August through Sun 9 August

Increasing participation in XC skiing for enjoyment, good health and active lifestyle is a primary goal of PXC.  One of the strategies aimed at achieving that goal is the marketing of XC Ski Week as a celebration of the many ways that people of all abilities and interests can participate in a unique snowsport.  Book your accommodation now and start thinking about how your summer sports will boost your skiing - the PXC website has useful information about cross-training.

Watch the PXC website (www.perisherxcountry.org) as information, calendars, event/activities, on-line entries etc are added over the summer.

Perisher X-Country

Members of the XC community met in November to plan for the summer.  The main focus areas of PXC are the continued development of XC infrastructure in the Perisher area (a partnership between the XC community and NPWS); marketing to increase participation in XC skiing including XC events and activities; continued development of the PXC website, which has been recognised as a valuable and effective resource for our sport.

Summer endurance sporting events will be targeted by a band of fit volunteers to spread the message that XC skiing is the ideal form of winter cross-training for endurance sports like mountain biking, triathlon and even dragon boating.  If you know of a suitable event, especially if you can volunteer a bit of time, let us know and we will try to get the PXC tent there.

Your favourite photos from 2014 - please send A FEW of your favourite (high res) winter photos.  We are always looking for lovely/interesting/quirky illustrations for articles and use on the PXC website.  We would like to build a small library of photos for this purpose.  Please send them with info about the photo and your permission to use them, especially if children are featured in the photo.

NSWIS - Pyeongchang and Beyond

As published in the recent edition of the NSWIS Magazine, The Edge.

Following the success of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, and leading into the quadrennial toward the 2018 Games, the NSWIS and its program partners, including Olympic Winter Institute (OWIA), Ski and Snowboard Australia (SSA) and NSW Snowsports, have reviewed the nation's winter sport structure to improve the results in Russia at future editions of the Games.

ASC Local Sporting Champions Grant

Young people find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participation at sporting competitions, particularly those from regional areas.

The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for young people aged 12-18 towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state, national or international sporting championships or a School Sport Australia state or national championships.

Teams Grants are not longer available. Teams are encouraged to apply for the individual grant. Grant includes international competition as a member of an official Australian team, endorsed by an ASC recognised NSO or School Sport Australia.
