NSW Snowsports Annual General Meeting - Preliminary Notice - Wednesday 26th March 2014

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of NSW Snowsports will be held on Wednesday 26th March 2014 beginning at 6.45pm.

The Meeting is to be held at:

Sydney - Pacific Room Sports House, 6B Figtree Rd, Sydney Olympic Park Homebush Bay

Teleconference in Jindabyne - 1 Mitchell Circuit, Jindaybne 

NSW Snowsports Annual General Meeting - Board Nominations 

We are currently seeking nominations for the Board of Directors.

To stand for a NSW Snowsports Board Position, the nominee must:

  1. Be a current NSW Snowsports Member, by way of SSA membership with NSW as your nominated state.
     
  2. Be nominated and seconded by current NSW Snowsports Members.

Ben Tudhope - NSW Snowsports Paralympic Athlete

NSW Snowsports athlete, Ben Tudhope, has recently been named in the Australian Paralympic Winter Squad. Ben will be competing in Snowboard at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from the 7th to 16th March 2014. 

NSW Snowsports would like to congratulate Ben on his selection, and look forward to watching him compete during 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. 

Ben currently competes in the NSW Interschools Snowsports Championships. Watch out for his olympic profile, which will soon appear on the Olympic Profiles Page on the NSW Interschools website: nswinterschools.com.au Ben is also a 2013 receipent of the Amelia McGuiness Scholarship.

Cross Country Work Parties - Update

The last Perisher XC work party achieved heaps (see the report on www.perisherxcountry.org).  Thanks to all who organised and helped, to NPWS and to Canberra Alpine Club.

Weather permitting, the major work for the March work party will be on the trails completing projects started in February and minor projects around the Nordic Shelter.

And pencil in the next work party dates:

Volunteer for a NSWIS Research Study

The NSW Institute of Sport is running a study to examine the impact of exercise in different environments on changes in body composition. NSWIS are seeking people to participate in the study which will be conducted at NSWIS in Sydney Olympic Park.

Exercise sessions will occur before or after normal work hours, with some opportunity to undertake the exercise during your lunch hour. 

Benefits to you for being a subject 

•      Sub-maximal fitness assessment

•      Measurement of your body composition.

•      8 weeks of supervised aerobic exercise.

•      $300 honorarium for out of pocket expenses (paid on completion).

If you are interested we will be running a session to further explain the study on Friday the 21st  of February (this Friday) at 12:00-12:30 and 12:30-1:00 PM  in the Ian Thorpe Theatrette on the Ground Floor of the NSWIS Building.

NSWOC Athlete Grant Program

The New South Wales Olympic Council (NSWOC) is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Athlete Grant Program. The NSWOC Council will distribute five $1,000 cash grants to ‘up and coming’ junior NSW athletes in 2014.

The focus of this program is to provide increased opportunities and assist with the funding for the development of young, ‘up and coming’ NSW athletes. The program has been created to reach athletes outside of the NSWIS scholarship program and those that are not already receiving significant support from their State, National Sporting Bodies or third parties.

Visit www.fastandfemaleaustralia.org for the new website for Fast and Female Australia Inc.! Fast and Female Australia Inc are so excited to have a base camp for all things Fast and Female Australia. 

They wanted to create a space that showcased our amazing ambassadors, provides resources to coaches, parents and caregivers on how they can help to get get more girls involved in sport and retain them in those sports, a place for you to keep up with our events and programming, photos, registration, our current supporters and sponsors, meet our board and operations team and most of all a place that can help spread the love of this fabulous initiative!

The Scots College Snowsports in conjunction with Ascham, Kambala and Cranbrook are holding their annual Secondhand Snowsports Sale on Sunday 6th of April 2014. Bring all your snowsports clothing and equipment and swap it or sell it!
