Magnificent 7 For SERAS

The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) is proud to announce that seven (7) former scholarship holders have been selected in the Australian Olympic Winter Team for the Sochi Games being held in Russia from 7-23 February.

Scott Kneller will become the academy’s first dual Olympian after undergoing intensive rehabilitation at the AIS for a broken back which he suffered during a training run in Italy.

NSWOC Athlete Grant Program

The New South Wales Olympic Council (NSWOC) is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Athlete Grant Program. The NSWOC Council will distribute five $1,000 cash grants to ‘up and coming’ junior NSW athletes in 2014.

The focus of this program is to provide increased opportunities and assist with the funding for the development of young, ‘up and coming’ NSW athletes. The program has been created to reach athletes outside of the NSWIS scholarship program and those that are not already receiving significant support from their State, National Sporting Bodies or third parties.

Cross Country Work Parties

Work parties on the Perisher XC trails.  It is that time of year again - weekends in the mountains, cool days, gorgeous environment, good people and a fine way to expend energy at high altitude.

Winter 2013 showed clearly how effective summer grooming of the trails is in holding minimal snow. And how important it is to keep improving things.  New snow fences, rock-removal and fine-tuning the routes are all low-tech strategies that have proved themselves over time and there is lots of that on the agenda for this summer.  Think of the winter ahead and set aside a summer weekend (the first weekend of each month) to join NPWS and the XC volunteers at the Nordic Shelter and on the trails.
