NSW Snowsports and It's Winning Grants EdgeNSW Snowsports is an active participant in entering Submissions to the NSW Government’s Department of Sport and Recreation to receive State Government Grants to help it run its Discipline programs and Events. All members benefit from the success of Grant submissions as it ensures financial resources can be targeted to where the NSW Committee that runs your Discipline believe will best benefit its athletes and members Recent successes include winning two International and National Sporting Events Grants, and one Regional Events Grants from the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation. The grants include $10 000 for the Snowboard Australian Rookie Fest, $10 000 for the Australian Freestyle Moguls Championships, and $10 000 for the Cross Country Ski Week. |

NSWACT Alpine Children's Team 2014The NSWACT Alpine Children's team for 2014 was announced at the End of Season Awards night held in Sydney on 26th Oct. Congratulations go to the 20 children selected onto the team. The children were selected based on their results in this years National and State children's series races held in Thredbo, Perisher and Mt Hotham. |

Jenny Owens Celeb-raiser for Sochi is on next ThursdayEveryone is invited to come along and celebrate Jenny's 22 years of ski racing and help her raise some funds to support her bid for Sochi. This will be Jenny's 3rd and last Olympics as she is retiring after Feb 2014. Special Guest speaker, the entertaining Steven Bradbury. A must hear speaker for all sporting fans. NSW Cross Country Commences Summer TrainingThe 2013-14 NSWXC Team and Squad have commenced their summer training. Athletes in both Sydney and Jindabyne are back into their weekly roller-skiing and strength and fitness training ahead of many heading off to the Northern Hemisphere for training and competition. Good luck to the athletes for their upcoming seasons! |

NSWXC Club MembershipThis season a new level of membership is being introduced for athletes and parents who wish to see what being involved in NSW Cross Country programs is all about. The NSWXC Club Membership allows athletes to become involved at their own pace and to fit in some involvement while still committing to their Saturday morning School or Club sport and being able to ski for their school in lnterschools races during the July school holidays. |

NSWXC Biathletes Commence Training in RussiaNSWXC Biathletes Alex Almoukov, Daniel Walker and Lucy Glanville have all commenced their winter training for the upcoming Northern Hemisphere season. The trio are all members of the Australian Shadow Winter Olympic Team for Sochi with Almoukov the most likely to represent Australia at the Games. Training under the watchful eye of Olympic Coach Nick Almoukov, they are currently at the venue known as the “Pearl of Siberia” a Biathlon and Cross Country Training venue in Tyumen, Siberia where many of the Russian national team athletes also train. So advanced is the technology at this venue that there is already a ski track available as refrigerated rods have been placed under the roller ski tracks with stored snow from last winter used to create a2km training venue. |

Laser Biathlon Comes to PerisherThere was a new activity on the cross country trails this season with NSW Biathlon’s laser biathlon system now fully part of the Perisher Cross Country trail system. As there is no Biathlon Range in NSW, either on-snow or away from the snow, the laser system at Perisher allows NSW Biathletes the ability to train on snow on the cross country trails during winter. |

Ski and Snowboard Australia Interschools School AwardsSSA holds an Annual Awards Ceremony in Melbourne recognising outstanding performances within the Snow Sports industry. To acknowledge all levels of competitive racing, and to highlight an outstanding or unique school, SSA presents two awards to schools within the Interschools Snowsports program.
These awards are open to all schools participating in Interschools from NSW, ACT, QLD, SA and VIC. State nominations will be judged by State Interschools Committees and the state winners will be put forward to SSA for final judging for the national winners. |
